My notes from Native American History (totally passing this class)

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Those who farm and those who do not. Nobody’s a farmer, but still living off the land. All these stereotypes that we know existed pre-contact. Truth be told, it’s got the disasters. California is unique among world cultures. They’ll all plop down and never farm a single thing. Very wisely exploiting the natural resources. Insect delicacies - don’t knock it ‘til you try it. Supplement with wild plants. Acorns are the hallmark, the staple. Crack it open and take the nut. Soak the powder seven times. You can trade what you have to get what you need. The work is in the material culture. Certain stones for certain tools. The housing, like the clothes, depends on the region. The real technology lies in the basket.
